in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day ‘midst impassable roads now I can make out a way in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day all your fears were unfounded and your worries assuaged in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day some years were fallow and some years were fey yet I can see all their plenty in the clear light of day in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day those few remnants of storm clouds out in far pasture graze in the clear light of morning in the clear light of day a lucent glass carafe half filled in the clear light of day

I met a man on the dry docks of an island, the fog was wan, wool and wight. He led me from the boatyard to a cellar, the beams were hewn, rude and white. He showed me into a basement full of rummage, a table there good and wide. He took his cane an he raised it towards the ceiling, fished it in between the wooden seams. And from on high came the sound of coin-dead jangle, he held my gaze and my enquire. The shape of shells, the din of empty oysters fell in cascade on the dusty floor. The more the man worked his staff unto the ceiling, the more the shells, the more they poured. disassemble the parts you're made of lay them out on the banquet table this day is a feast you're about to begin all the layers of callous quicklime melt away when you drink the house wine this day is a feast this day is a feast

I’ll follow the wind begin in the dawn the great southern lawn gather the circular papers forgotten remainders from yesterday I’ll follow the wind wherever it goes the lesser of roads it comes alongside drives it’s stirrups into pride perhaps I’ll find my way back again I’ll follow the wind wherever it goes I’ll follow the wind the end of the line ten stops beyond mine the boardwalking ocean the wooden roller coaster closed down for the coney night I’ll follow the wind whenever it blows the less that I know the lighter I am to be carried on a libertine course down the tracks of life I’ll follow the wind wherever it goes in the dark fourth watch of the night it leaps from the vigil kept in the highest cleft down to the coast where the foam heads roil ride the painted crest of the carousel directing the song of the dune grass choir comb the fur of the scavenging fox on fire august waters of the warm sream gulf lift the porcelain moon to my open mouth I’ll follow the wind

Sheridan 04:06
when I left you there in that place in time thinking I’d return and then a year went by then the baby came and I missed that too you stood as still as stone inside her dressing room then the news it came at the end of May my brother fell at work and he wouldn’t wake I was on my knees in the shed outside pleading begging God not to run and hide then you took me up onto that East End hill the fog was rolling away the sun was shining still you knew the place it was safe to cry and through my tears I could see your smile all the wind in your golden hair you are the gold in my winded hands Sheridan

Without Love 04:49
Today you came and dwelt in my mind, we traveled some of the paths that you left aside. Life pulls up the stakes and you’re dragged behind the wheels of the train, a doll on a chain with no death to die. Will any of those seed take root: the house you’d build in the kills for your sons to run; will you ever bear those lives in your time or are those visions gone? my heart is for you towards you my heart is for you without love I am nothing at all I am no one to call without love without love I am nothing at all I am no friend to call without love these words are birds mistaking sky lying lifeless on the ground without love I am I am nothing at all without love I am no one nothing at all without love I am nothing at all I am no friend to call without love I am no one I’ve been nowhere I’d have no name I’ll leave no trace without love I am nothing

Lost Highway 05:57
I’ve been looking for you on the highway why weren’t you there? I’ve been waiting for you so long where have you been where have you been where, where, where, where, where? I’ve been looking for you all around the town I’ve been looking for you on the byway no sign of you there I’ve been waiting for you so long where have you been where have you been where, where, where, where, where? I’ve been looking for you all around the town well this is some kind of life when I feel every mile you were all that I had you were all I had I long to find you you were all I had I’m long behind you I’ve been looking for you on the highway why weren’t you there? where have you been where have you been where, where, where, where, where?

I hear the thunder lowing and braying herd on the restless sky and I know it’s mine I see the lightning whinnying, neighing mare on her quarter hind and I know it’s time to wash my blues away wash my blues away the waste that was laid the soul that I lost the land that I left for a pearl of great cost I will lie in this field I will let the rain fall and wash my blues away

river that runs under the sea finds the warm air in the spring of a dream when I awake, what do I glean and what to discard from all that I’ve seen a mountain of shards, a sliver within memory’s bard sings a diamond hymn current of kith, cool river deep eddying kin in the shallows of sleep I see them mining the coal, digging the clay, skimming the oil, sifting the waste, loading the boxcar, mending the tire, laying the steel bar, tending the fire. The messenger comes down, I wrestle his might: my power is bested, but given the sight. I am a strange son -- the future a changed one. slowly motion falling eyes with the darkness by your side there is nothing left to hide ladder linking earth and sky there’ll be plenty to be found when the night comes back around The shelves upon your secret heart have hidden tomes away, censured by the inquisition of the necessary day. How many are given to quotidian in gray? And so these celluloid transparencies in color on your mind are overlaid. The confetti of the living fills the air of the parade. You find that time is not a line but a collapsing ring of hopes, and shades, and fates where we have all come to be seen and for to see the waker dreams. slowly motion falling eyes there is nothing left to hide with the darkness by your side ladder linking land and sky there’ll be plenty to be found when the light comes when the night comes back around

come across the Ocean come across the Sea I want to feel your body and hold you close to me make a wish upon that star falling in the sky make a wish upon a lash and think of you and I come across the Ocean come across the Sea absence makes the heart long but it’s your presence that I need come across the Ocean come across the Sea I want to feel your body and hold you close to me
